An email discussion list facilitates online exchanges between list members. There are two types of discussion lists: open and moderated. An open discussion list is configured so that anyone who is a member can post a message to the entire group. With a moderated list, the submissions need to go through an approval process before they are distributed to the list.

Web interface: makes it easy for people to subscribe, unsubscribe, change settings, and also search, read and contribute to your list
Protected membership: mailing lists can be set up so that new members a) must be approved by an administrator, b) must know the new member password, c) can join without approval, or d) cannot join themselves so the administrator must add them
Visitors: mailing lists can allow visitors who can read and search the archives on the web, but who cannot contribute to the group
Moderating: supports several moderating models (such as 'all members can be moderated', 'selected members can be moderated', and 'selected members can be unmoderated') and you can specify one or several individuals to approve messages
Number moderating: an option for new members to have their first few messages approved, thereafter they can contribute unmoderated
Web based moderating: you can approve or reject batches of messages at a time using the web interface
Date moderating: you can have moderated messages be automatically approved after a given time period
Confirmation: new subscriptions can double opt-in
Failsafe unsubscribing: default message footer contains the member's email address and easy instructions for unsubscribing
Automatic email addresses: simplified subscribe and unsubscribe email addresses, e.g., join-mylist@LyrisList.com
Archives (optional): you can archive list messages which can be read via the web interface
Fast text searching: all archives are indexed for fast searching

Messages sent above and beyond your included message volume are charged at a flat rate of 50¢ per thousand (50¢ CPM), assuming an average message size of 10 kilobytes.

Overage rates increase in proportion to your average message size; that is, if your average message size for the month is 20kb, the overage cost per thousand messages is $1; if your average message size for the month is 50kb, the overage cost per thousand messages is $2.50.

Administrative messages such as subscribes, unsubscribes, and welcome messages, are free. Digests and indexes count as a single message.

You can also choose to include a custom domain for your discussion list, which lets you brand your list name, e.g., yourlist@lists.your-company-name.com. The price for this feature is $50 per month with a $50 one-time setup.

Lyris List reserves sole discretion to determine what is, or what is not, a discussion list. (Lyris List defines a discussion list to be an email list that allows posts from all of the list members, moderated or unmoderated.)
